Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even.

Who We Are

Our team’s roots span back to 1990 when Director and Head Coach Harry Powell established his first school for the sole purpose of teaching functional martial arts through the philosophies of Jan Fan Jeet Kune Do (JKD). This revolutionary concept was the brainchild of Bruce Lee with a strong emphasis of absorbing those techniques which are most useful and abandoning those which are not. From these early beginnings we now offer programs that encompasses Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai, No Gi Submission Grappling, JKD, and of course the ultimate amalgamation of combat sports that is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

We believe each of our students has a personal and individual path to proficiency in the martial arts. Through the fundamental concepts provided by our expert coaches each student has an opportunity to grow and develop their own deeper understanding of functional martial arts. This journey will be different for each of our students who's goals range from finding a new way to improve health and fitness as well as those looking to compete at the highest levels of competitive grapping, striking, and mixed martial arts. Regardless of a students goals or skill level we represent a unified team of likeminded individuals hoping to better themselves through the discipline martial arts can provide.

At Powell's MMA you are guaranteed to find outstanding coaching in an environment that allows each member to develop their own game at their own pace. Our team includes youth members starting as early as 8 years old up to members who still train well into their 60's. Our ranks include both amateur and profession fighters as well as individuals who train solely for self defense and the love of the lifestyle this type of training has to offer.
